International Beer Cantus

Tuesday of this week was the second beer cantus of the semester. This cantus was held outside at Talent Square and had an international theme. Although there was many Dutch songs sang at the last cantus, this one consisted only of English songs including Hey Jude, Wake me Up, and the Dutch favourite Angels.

Everybody represented their own country by dressing in stereotypical clothes and colors. Laura had me braid her hair in pigtails, and Andrea was creative in wearing a Mario costume for Italy. Koko wore chopsticks in her hair, and the other Canadian Janine had tons of Canadian clothing from home.

The rules in the songbook stated that it was forbidden to stand on tables or benches or to throw beer. Throughout the cantus people followed these rules, but by last song people were throwing beer everywhere and dancing on every table. Everyone was soaked in beer and most of the people were ridiculously drunk.

Since it was only just after 10pm when the cantus finished there was an after party scheduled at Carpe Diem. They allowed anybody with a wristband from the cantus to enter the party, so needless to say it was the most crowded party I’ve attended all semester.
