Erfurt Germany Day 2

On Tuesday we had another day of exploring Erfurt, this time showing Jiri around. This was his first trip to Germany and he was rather surprised at how nice Erfurt was. Laura showed us her favourite street in Erfurt, one with many colorful small houses each with their own name like “black rooster”. We showed Jiri the famous bridge and walked past the cathedral.

For lunch we bought some groceries and sat in the shade to eat. In the afternoon we headed to a famous flower exhibition. Laura and I had decided it was necessary to go when we saw advertisements about special hammock days

Once we arrived we climbed up the tower where we could see all of Erfurt and Weimar in the distance. We walked through the largest flowerbed in Europe and visited the greenhouses. There was a butterfly room where I got to use my favourite German word “Schmetterling”.

After the greenhouses we got ice-cream and laid on the hammocks in the shade for close to an hour, almost falling asleep.

Before leaving the exhibition we visited the small farm section where Jiri bonded with the sheep and goats. Nests full of baby birds were all over the ceiling of the one barns. Sadly we were told to leave since it was closing in two minutes. We left the exhibition and headed back towards the city center.

We went out for an early birthday dinner at a restaurant overlooking the river. We didn’t actually get a seat on the porch since the restaurant was so busy. A man and woman had a heated argument over a free table on the porch which ended with the man storming out and plopping himself at the table. Made for some good entertainment.

After dinner we met with Laura’s friends Michael and Hanna at the bridge where we sat and talked until late.
