The last portion of my trip will be spent in Germany, mainly in Erfurt
with Laura. My first day in Erfurt was also my first day of relaxation since I
left Tilburg in June. We woke up late and had a lazy breakfast outside on the
balcony. Or at least we tried to until we realized it was way too hot to sit out in
the sun.
After getting ready we started on a lazy walk along the river near her
house. While walking we overheard some music over a fence. In search of the
source of the music we stumbled upon a little festival. There we hung out in hammocks
and listened to music for an hour.
We continued on my guided tour of Erfurt and saw the Monastery,
stopping to take a look in the basement and in the church. Along the way I
found my new obsession, taking photos of cute doors. We arrived at the famous
bridge of Erfurt. Here is where people soak their feet in the cold water of the
river and eat ice cream. While walking around in the water Laura cut her foot,
so we stayed sitting on the edge until it was a bit better.
Laura took me to a cute little chocolate shop in town that sells
amazing ice cream complete with a homemade chocolate truffle on top. My newfound
love of fruit ice cream had me choosing the wild berry. We ate our ice cream by
the bank of the water.
After we finished we took a walk through the city centre in which I
felt the need to look in every cute shop. Laura showed me a mustard store
complete with a museum upstairs. We went in for a free tasting of a few of the
strange varieties including dill and honey flavor among others.
After taking a look in a few small grocery stores in search of popcorn (Laura wanting sweet (blech) and me wanting salty…) we headed back to the apartment. Due to the heat, my longing for my pool, and Laura’s longing for the sea, we planned to visit the swimming pool near her house. Arriving at 7pm we were given a deal of only 1.20 euros. We spent the evening acting like complete children by trying out all the slides, diving boards, and the whirlpool.
Upon arriving home we got comfy and put on the movie “Letters to Juliet”. We had thought it might be interesting to watch a movie set in Verona, a city we had been in just days before. Turns out the movie isn’t actually so thrilling and the acting is even worse than a normal romcom!
