A week of Procrastinating

Finishing half a textbook
The textbook for my Group Dynamics course was 150 euros, so of course I decided its best not to buy it. I asked to borrow a classmate’s book, and had less than a week to finish it while she was on vacation in Poland. Therefore I spent the beginning of this week locked on Beka’s floor reading for hours. Somehow I was successful and finished 200 pages of the book in 2 days. It was easier to stay motivated with Beka studying beside me.

 Cristoph’s party
At the pond
Last week was Cristoph’s last week, so he held another going away party. Since he was the second person I met upon arriving in Tilburg I thought it was fitting to attend his party.  Luckily this party was pretty low key, since I had to leave early in order to wake up on time for my 8:45 lab on Thursday morning.

Café with Beka and Laura

On Thursday Beka and Laura and I decided to cycle into town to check out a café we’d wanted to try since the beginning of the term.  We found that although “Sissy boy” café has the strangest name, it has the best scones. Afterwards we spent the afternoon shopping. I purchased some much-needed running shoes for my travels this summer, and some summer clothes.
Scrapbooking
Scrapbook party
Ellaisha and I were inspired by her going away scrapbook for Jiri and decided to host a scrapbooking party for everyone else. We arranged to pick up the books, pictures, and supplies for everyone, and invited ten people to join. People became a little tired of cutting papers and gluing and one by one they slowly disappeared until it was just Marta, Beka and I. Andrea and Koko made their grand entrance at 11:45pm once everyone else had left.

 Picnic
On Friday morning Beka and I spent the morning at the pond. Sadly I had to spend the time studying, but lucky for her she had already written her last exam and got to read my kindle.
On Friday evening, after our last ever group dynamics class, Éadaoin and I decided to throw together a last minute picnic on campus. We invited everyone and spent the evening eating, talking and playing random games with beer cans. We stayed on campus until after 10 o’clock. Ever since daylight savings time, the sun seems to never set.
 Out for drinks
Later on after the picnic on Thursday, Éadaoin, Eoin, Dominika, and I cycled into town to have  drinks on a patio in the center.  Éadaoin was very jealous of my hot Chocomel, and disappointed in her beer once the drinks arrived. We listened to Éadaoin and Eoin’s “interesting” stories about what you can do on a trip to Amsterdam.

Cycle to Dunes
Saturday was the warmest day we’ve had thus far in Tilburg with the heat index making it feel like 34 degrees. What a perfect day for a 22km bike ride to the sand dunes and back. Éadaoin, Eoin and I took the long trip to the dunes (made even longer with Éadaoin trying to catch up on her tiny bike). The ride was gorgeous with cute Dutch farms, ponies, and greenery combined with smooth flat bike paths. I swear my dad should have lived his whole life in the Netherlands instead of just 6 months. We spent a few hours at the dunes eating a picnic and studying in the shade before cycling back to Verbs.

Night Flea Market
On Saturday evening Éadaoin, Eoin, Dominika and I had yet another picnic outside verbs with homemade burgers. It’s just much too hot to eat any meals inside these days. Later on that night there was a nighttime flea market in Tilburg called Meimarket. The market began at 10pm Saturday night and didn’t close until 5pm on Sunday. Koko, Ellaisha, Naf, Marta and I cycled into the center to check out the market. Everyone loved the 2-euro clothes especially Koko and Marta who were trying on tons of clothes and even returned the next day for more. We ran into Baron later on and offered to bring him home on our bikes so he didn’t have to walk home. Sadly for him (and me) the girls weren’t finished shopping for another hour.

Studying in the sun

The week was finished how it started, with studying for finals all afternoon. Thankful for the great weather I ventured into the forest to study. Later on Ellaisha and I took advantage of the coupon I ordered online months ago for a whole pizza for 1 euro and watched a movie.
