Kronborg Castle |
So we began the day by heading into the city, and quickly
tracked down the meeting point to get on our bus for the Castles. Luckily, our
bearings of Copenhagen were improving at this point! We grabbed some pastries,
and hopped right onto our chariot to the royal lands.
Once on the bus, we headed to the castle of Kronborg.
Funnily enough, we ended up with same tour guide from the previous day’s boat
tour! She was enthusiastic, so we were pleased to have her for another day.
The Kronborg Castle was lovely, featuring a rocky beach, amazing architecture, and a view of Sweden, we had much to see! We didn’t end up buying tickets to see the inside, since we found the surroundings so fun! Although when we first arrived at the Castle the weather was less than desirable (spur of the moment rain again?!), we were thrilled when it cleared up with sunny skies.
One of the highlights of this stop was the adorable couple from our tour asking us for directions. The old pair never left each other’s sides, and they were quick to explore all of the stops we took. We both hope to have a travel buddy this loyal when we are older!
Fredensborg Castle |
After this first castle visit, we then went to the second called “Fredensborg Castle”. We were told this is where the Danish Royal Family resides in the summer. We were given a short time to explore, and take pictures. The guards made us laugh, and got us thinking about how boring it must be to walk back and forth all day. At least it’s good exercise!
We got so wrapped up in exploring the gardens that we almost missed our bus! We were supposed to be back for 4:10, which we were (4:09 to be exact), but our tour guide had miscounted the people on board. They were about to leave without us unknowingly! Our timeliness definitely saved us this time!
Once our tour arrived back in Copenhagen, we took a couple detours – first to a beautiful park and then to the Norreport market to grab food. We retired earlier to save up for energy for the next day’s travels to Berlin.
More adventures to come,
