To meet a
bean is never a funny event (Andrea -Italy)
To meet a bean is never a funny event, moreover if the bean
is also abstemious and Canadian for sure nothing good is going to happen. It
seems incredible but this time I have to withdraw what I have just stated. I
perfectly remember the first encounter that I had with the bean here in The
Netherlands: I was looking for another student in order to go together to the
Tilburg city tour the day after the beginning of our exchange. It (the bean)
was in its room, apparently doing nothing; I knocked the door and said: “I know
that you are a new exchange student as I am, the city tour will start in 15
minutes, would you like to come?”. The bean moaned something which I didn`t
understand (my English was even worse than now, so I let you imagine how
difficult was to understand a Canadian bean who spoke extremely fast) but
apparently it was a yes and we cycled together to the city center. It was the
beginning of a friendship. I had the fortune to spend a lot of time with the
bean: we went to a week-end trip in Brussels and to 8 different cities during
the city race, we went to a Finnish-folk concert and almost every Wednesday and
Friday we had dinner together. We also had a crazy night in which two Italians
ate a pizza in its room and after we played cards with a lazy Czech that was
Skyping with us.
Janine, I`ll miss your cat-addiction, your repulsion for our
kitchen and your repulsion for everything with alcohol in it. I am also sure
I`ll miss you too. It was a great experience, and even if it comes to an end I
hope to see you again, who knows, life is so unpredictable! Thank you.
Ps: I am looking forward to seeing you in Venice!
Jessica Novia (Singapore)
Wow time in Tilburg seems to go by so slowly yet so fast at the same time. It seems like just a few weeks back that I first met Janine- the first Canadian I met in my life! We bonded over our shared love for staying in and watching movies like sloths, and being uncomfortable in parties. I'm so glad of all the crazy people I've met in Tilburg, I've found this bean to have dinner with every Wednesday. The best ones so far being sushi dinner and that one time we became master chefs on Easter Sunday. I'm gonna terribly miss our cuddling sessions but I know there will be much more to come. I will hold you on your promise to come to Singapore and keep bugging you until you do! I'm so excited to begin our travel through Croatia and Italy!
